A big announcement is coming this Friday, December 15. I can’t share details just yet, but you all will be the first to know. I hope you’ll join me at 11:30 am Pacific this Friday, December 15, for an Instagram Live for the announcement.
Now, for two new studies…what if your oral care routine could help you lose weight? 🍔🍟🌭🍕
If you’re not paying attention to your oral microbiome, you’re probably overeating.
This brand new study challenges the traditional understanding of appetite control. This new research reveals that our sense of taste—not signals from the stomach—plays a critical role in regulating how much we eat.
We used to think it was stretch receptors in the stomach that told us when we felt “full” enough to stop eating (satiety).
But according to this study, it’s not volume of food in the stomach—it’s taste that determines whether or not we feel satisfied after eating.
So, how do you know your taste buds are working at their full potential?
As it turns out, an oral microbiome dysbiosis blunts your ability to taste certain foods. Check out this study, which demonstrates the relationship between our ability to taste and state of the oral microbiome.
So, what can you do?
1) Use the right toothpaste. Ditch any toothpaste with essential oils or other oral microbiome disruptors. Read more on my website here about toothpaste ingredients.
2) Floss. I recommend the Slate flosser or a PFA-free floss.
3. Tongue scrape. I recommend these two.
4. Take an oral probiotic. I recommend Bristle’s.
5. Nourish your oral microbiome with prebiotic food, like my oral microbiome omelet.
6. Take my Oral Microbiome Reset course.
In Episode #105, I discuss hydroxyapatite—specifically, is it safe? Give it a listen and hit reply to let me know if you have any further questions on this important topic.
Now, a BIG thank you to all of you. I was recently on the Ultimate Health Podcast, and the host, Jesse, said the episode blew away his audience, that he’s never seen numbers like these before. Maybe we’re seeing a tipping point with oral health! And that is thanks to all of you—thank you for your support, and for sharing this information with your loved ones
🎄 The holidays tend to cause a great deal of stress on the oral microbiome. Watch the recording here of my Instagram Live with oral microbiome expert Dr. David Lin and leave any follow up questions in the comments.
Thanks for reading this week. I’d love to hear from you…what would you like to see more often here in the newsletter? By the way—shorter, more concise emails are more likely to get a reply from me, as I do my best to reply to as many folks as possible.
P.S. Would you rather I put together a “Dr. B’s gift guide” or “What’s in my vitamin cabinet” guide? Would love to get your feedback.
