Welcome to this week’s edition of Mondays with Mark. Here’s what’s new this week…
1. Fluoride vs. Hydroxyapatite 🥊
Click here to read my latest article:Â Hydroxyapatite vs. Fluoride: How Do They Compare?
I was interviewed about fluoride recently for an episode of Broken Brain, which will come out in a few weeks. In that conversation, I said that children are exposed to so much—lead, Mercury, arsenic, air pollution, glyphosate, you name it…and it’s nearly impossible to manage all of this. But when it comes to fluoride, it’s a no-brainer: Hydroxyapatite performs just as well as fluoride, in some cases better, with none of the toxicity concerns—take this most recent example: A 2017 study which found that prenatal exposure to fluoride correlated with lower IQ
If you’re a dentist or healthcare practitioner, I encourage you to spend an hour on the Fluoride Action Network website to read the neurotoxin studies. You can also refer to my writing on fluoride here, here, and here.
The beauty of hydroxyapatite is that we don’t have to take away something that prevents decay—we have a replacement that isn’t toxic, is biomimetic, and proven to be safe. Let’s make hydroxyapatite the “new fluoride”!
2. Watch last week’s myofunctional therapy Q&A 👅
Both patients and practitioners will learn a lot from last week’s Instagram Q&A, all about myofunctional therapy—covering everything from tongue tie surgery to breathing exercises to proper oral posture.
I highly recommend Sarah’s MyoMentor my-functional therapy training program for both dentists and hygienists. Click here to learn more—her next cohort begins on March 27.
3. Can you heal fractured teeth with hydroxyapatite or oil pulling? 🎙
My podcast is officially live! Please subscribe, rate, and review!
On this first episode of Ask the Dentist, I answer Kelly’s question: “I’m wondering how you would treat a fractured tooth. Can you use hydroxyapatite or oil pulling to treat it or, at least, prevent it from getting bigger?”
Submit your question by recording a voice memo to be included on the show at speakpipe.com/askthedentist. I would love to hear from you, and of course, subscribing and leaving a review helps brand new podcasts greatly.
As always, you can reply to this email and it will come to me and my team. I do my best to respond to as many as I can each week.
Thanks for reading and have a great week.
P.S. Drinking bottled water? It’s not necessarily fluoride-free! Certain brands, like Dasani, filter tap water in such a way that does not remove fluoride. The quickest, easiest, cheapest way to remove fluoride from your water that I’ve found (and use myself) is with this water filter.
