Have you been meaning to try oil pulling, but it just seems too messy? Whether you already enjoy oil pulling or would like to start, I’ve created a recipe for microbiome coconut oil pulling chews that is a must try!
These microbiome coconut oil pulling chews make it easy to get the full benefits of oil pulling; I carefully selected each of these ingredients to nourish the oral microbiome, help promote remineralization of the teeth and to enhance the biofilm of the tooth; resulting in fewer cavities, better breath, and better gut health.
Coconut oil: Coconut oil contains lauric acid, a selective oral antimicrobial. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro, a bacteria found to be a significant contributor to gum disease and tooth decay.
Avocado oil: Like olive oil, avocado oil contains high amounts of the heart healthy monounsaturated fat, oleic acid. It’s high in antioxidants and the fat soluble vitamin E, which is helpful in preventing inflammation, such as the chronic inflammation involved in periodontal disease.
Baobab: A high fiber food from the fruit of the Baobab tree makes this a perfect prebiotic, or food for your healthy microflora. A rich source of vitamin C (important for gum health!) and bioflavonoids, combined with a delicately sweet citrus flavor makes this a superfood sweetener.
Spore based probiotic (optional): Spore based probiotics are derived from the soil. They were a common component of our ancestor’s diets, when eating fresh food from the earth brought with it an abundance of microorganisms that benefited their microbiome. They are hardier than other probiotics in their ability to withstand greater pH and temperature variations.
We have two versions of our oil pulling chews! This recipe outlines the oil pulling chews for a healthy microbiome, but we also have an remineralizing version for a more proactive approach to your dental health.
How will you choose which oil pulling chew recipe is right for you? It’s helpful to consider your goals.
If you’re new to oil pulling and want a tastier experience than what just straight oil will provide, try the version below. The antioxidants and vitamin C in baobab support the mucosa and connective tissue of the gums.
However, if you’re wanting a more proactive approach to decreasing your risk for cavities, you may want to try the remineralizing arginine version, as it helps break down dental plaque that lead to cavities.
