If you’re a parent with a young child, you know that teething is one of the most challenging and uncomfortable developmental stages that babies have to endure.
And while grocery and drugstore shelves are lined with products designed to reduce teething pain, the truth is that very few—if any—actually promote a healthy mouth.
For example, the FDA recently cracked down on the use of benzocaine teething gels. It was discovered that this chemical could induce methemoglobinemia, a dangerous condition causing the amount of oxygen carried in the blood to be greatly reduced. (1)
So let’s face it: As a parent, you want to keep your child healthy. But you also need quick and easy solutions that actually work.
Because of this, we created this Gum-Soothing Popsicle recipe as a natural, healthy, and easy way to give your baby some much-needed teething relief. Even better is the fact that these popsicles are absolutely delicious!
The obvious star of this recipe is turmeric, which is an anti-inflammatory powerhouse that is effective in soothing inflamed and uncomfortable gums, while also boosting oral health. (2) We then added ginger and cinnamon—which also contain anti-inflammatory properties—to make this a must-have recipe for parents of little ones. (3, 4)
These popsicles are one of the best all-natural teething remedies for your baby, and all you have to do is add everything to a blender, combine, and pour into popsicle molds.
No popsicle molds? Simply slice and freeze the bananas. Then, when frozen, blend the bananas and all other ingredients, except the coconut water, for a yummy ice cream-like treat!
These popsicles can be messy as they melt, and turmeric can stain, so be sure to have a couple paper towels nearby.
(Disclaimer: It’s not recommended to introduce solids to your child until they are at least 4 months, and some medical professionals suggesting holding off until 6, or even 8, months, due to the gut being not being fully developed until around this time.)
- Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender, blending until well-combined.
- Evenly distribute into popsicle molds. Freeze until ready to use, or at least 1 hour.
- Thaw for 5 minutes before serving.
