Why not give a gift that keeps mom healthier, happier, and around on this planet longer this Mother’s Day? You won’t find any perfume or pajamas in this list—only things that we’ve tried, tested, and believe will make a meaningful difference to your mom’s health.
Helping me write today’s post is the mother of our three daughters—Roseann! So consider these picks to already be mom-approved.
P.S. Several of the products below are offering coupon codes specifically for Ask the Dentist readers!
My Hands-Down Favorite Cookbook
Against All Grain CookbookThe recipes in this cookbook are the kind that make everyone at the table say, “Wow!” Seriously. We’ve tried nearly everything in this cookbook, and we have yet to find a recipe that doesn’t blow us away. Unlike other grain-free, dairy-free cookbooks we’ve tried, these recipes are truly gourmet what staying truly healthy.
A Pillow Designed for Better Sleep
MyPillow Classic SeriesThis pillow is different because it helps improve ease of breathing during sleep. Added bonus: you can throw it in the washing machine and dryer to clean it, helping to keep the bedroom dust-free. Make sure to check the super easy fitting guide to pick the right one for Mom.
Essential Oils Kit
doTERRA Introductory KitIntroduce Mom to the benefits of essential oils. Using essential oils is intuitively simple and highly satisfying. Because there are so many oils available and there are numerous combinations and wellness applications, it can be a bit overwhelming to beginners. As a simple first step on a journey with essential oils, we recommend a trio of Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint.
Glasslock 18-Piece Container SetHelp your mom ditch the plastic! These days, our bodies are overwhelmed with the chemicals that leech from plastic bottles into our food, beauty products, and water. It’s impossible to avoid all plastics, but making a switch like this is a meaningful one toward lowering exposure.
PUR Advanced 3-Stage Faucet Water FilterI’ve talked a lot about why we filter our water at home. Filtered water is one of the best things you can do to reduce pollutants and toxins from your diet. This water filter is great for a beginner—easy setup, doesn’t take up any counter space, and removes 70+ contaminants, including 99% of lead, 92% of pesticides, and 96% of mercury. This is the exact model we use at our cabin. If Mom’s not new to filtering her water and you’re willing to spend more, I’d recommend this model instead.
Laptop EMF Shield
DefenderPad Laptop ShieldEMF (electromagnetic field) radiation has been linked to fatigue, DNA damage, infertility, memory loss, and cancer. Says who? The World Health Organization and The State of California have declared that EMFs are a potential carcinogen. This shield also makes using your laptop more comfortable since it blocks heat. Their EMF-blocking technology is independently verified by the FCC, so you can be confident that Mom is protected.
Glass Water Bottle
bkr 500mL Glass Water BottleMy wife loves her Bkr water bottle. The 500mL size fits in virtually every car cup holder, the silicone is stylish and slip-proof and even prevents rings. The small spigot at the top makes it impossible to spill water on yourself. There’s a reason Bkr has a huge following. Whatever color is your mom’s favorite, Bkr will have it.
A Good Night's Sleep
Philips Wake-up LightI’ve tried several of the Philips wake-up lights, and it’s clear to see why this one is their bestseller. Waking up to sunlight is how our ancestors evolved for thousands of years, and we still have their genes in this modern world! This is great if your mom needs to wake up before it’s light outside or could enjoy relaxing before bed with a book and the slowly dimming light that mimics a sunset. If you still need convincing, check out some of the 3,100, nearly all 5-star reviews on Amazon. This light changes people’s lives.
Thrive MarketIt’s $60 for the year, but that’s less than an Amazon Prime membership. I was skeptical at first, but this service has more than paid for itself both years we’ve had it. Thrive is like getting Whole Foods groceries at TJMaxx prices—everything they have is sold at wholesale prices! My wife and I use Thrive to stock up on staples that would normally cost a lot more—coconut oil, almond butter, bison bars, almond flour, bone broth, Dr. Bronner’s soap, and many of our vitamins.

A Better Toothbrush
QuipGive Mom an elegant electric toothbrush with refillable heads that show up in the mail when she needs them—consider it one less thing for her to remember to take care of her teeth and gums. A mother’s gums take a beating during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so a quality electric toothbrush plus never-worn-out bristles will do the trick.
Disclosure: I’m an advisor for Quip. More on why I decided to advise this toothbrush start-up in particular here.

Lulu's ChocolateLulu’s makes my favorite raw dark chocolate. It’s insanely delicious. When you go for a chocolate like this one—instead of junky milk chocolate—it is a health food, strengthening tooth enamel, helping carbohydrate cravings, and helping control tone of the blood vessels. I’m very picky when it comes to chocolate, but everything Lulu’s makes is delicious. If Mom’s not a fan of solid chocolate, the runner-up would have to be Lulu’s truffles.
My Favorite Nutrition Book
Vitamin K2 and the Calcium ParadoxOsteoporosis runs in many families—if that’s you, this book could break the cycle. While millions of people take calcium and Vitamin D thinking they’re helping their bones, the truth is, without the addition of Vitamin K2, the body cannot direct calcium into the bones and, instead, leads to calcium buildup in the arteries, leading to osteoporosis and atherosclerosis—hence the “calcium paradox.”
Vitamin K2 really should not be as obscure as it is, and this book not only demystifies it, but it’s an absolutely fascinating read. The science in this book had my jaw on the floor when I first read it. I really can’t recommend it highly enough.
Gourmet Paleo Delivery
Pete's PaleoPete’s Paleo has been a complete hit in our household. We’ve lured our daughter and son-in-law to come over by telling them “we’ll be heating up Pete’s Paleo for dinner tonight.” The difference with Pete’s is that it’s made by a gourmet chef, so if your mom wants to eat healthy without sacrificing any flavor, Pete’s is it. By the way, paleo is no dairy, no grains, and no sugar.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses
Swanwick Blue Light Blocking GlassesMom always taught you that there were more important things than looking cool. Well, she was right! Exposure to blue light from phones, tablets, and computers is destroying our sleep. Blue light blocking glasses are one of the easiest ways to start sleeping better immediately. For more on the health benefits of these glasses, check out Wellness Mama’s review. (For the record, though, this brand makes the least dorky glasses of its kind.)
Healthy Meat She Can Trust
Butcher BoxOur meat supply is incredibly polluted here in the US. When cattle eat only grass and get plenty of exercise, the meat has less fat, three times the heart-healthy Omega 3s, fewer inflammatory Omega 6s, more CLA (which can speed fat loss and help fight cancer), and a higher portion of vitamin K2, vitamin E, B-vitamins, calcium, carotenoids, magnesium, and potassium. Regular beef comes from grain-fed cattle who start their lives on pasture, but get moved to feedlots with no grass and are routinely given growth hormones and antibiotics.

The 8-Hour Sleep Paradox
The 8-Hour Sleep ParadoxYes, I’m biased—I wrote this book. But if your mom snores, grinds her teeth, or is terrified of giving up coffee, you owe it to her to get her this book.
A Humidifying Diffuser
VicTsing Essential Oil DiffuserIf you want to help your mom relax, this is just the thing. We use these in the office and at home and everyone loves them. Just a few drops of essential oil and the whole room smells fantastic. The health benefits of humidifying air at home are many: reduced risk of getting sick, sinus pain relief, healthier houseplants, and improved sleep.
I’ve used many other diffusers but I like this one because it doesn’t look like just another electronic device cluttering up the room—it’s simply beautiful to look at. It’s also one of the quietest models I’ve tried and does not leak. This pairs great with the essential oils kit above.
The Gift of Time
You can never go wrong with giving your mom the gift of time—surprise her with tickets to a show she loves, a dance class you can take together, or take her on a trip. After all, the whole point of staying healthy is so we can better enjoy our time together!
